High school and college students interested in health care careers are invited to Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciencesā Mini Medical School, a free four-week program designed to provide hands-on insights into the medical field. Held every Tuesday evening in February 2025, the program offers a unique opportunity to work alongside DMU faculty and students in an engaging, real-world learning environment.
Mini Medical School participants will gain valuable experience through interactive sessions focused on solving medical challenges, understanding disease processes and learning about career opportunities in health care. Each 90-minute session explores a different facet of medical science and clinical reasoning. Students will begin by learning how health care professionals evaluate symptoms and diagnose patients before diving into the science behind conditions such as fever, exploring pharmacology and genetics and tackling advanced clinical case scenarios.
DMUās Mini Medical School is designed for students who are curious about health sciences or already considering careers in medicine. The program, held at DMUās state-of-the-art campus at 8025 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines, offers an innovative setting where students can gain hands-on experience while connecting with mentors and like-minded peers.
Registration for Mini Medical School is now open and will remain available until January 31, 2025. Space is limited to ensure personalized attention and a high-quality experience, so early registration is encouraged. Participation is free, but students are asked to commit to attending all four sessions.
