David Plutschack

David Plutschack, OTD, OTR/L, BCPR, CLT, CEASII

Dr. Plutschack graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, NE with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science and Doctor of Occupational Therapy degrees. He joined the DMU Occupational Therapy Department in 2023. Dr. Plutschack has held previous academic and administrative roles in Occupational Therapy Doctorate Programs as well as an adjunct role in a Master of Athletic Training Program. Dr. Plutschack’s clinical background includes a variety of adult rehabilitation settings including outpatient hand therapy, employee health and wellness, ergonomics, burn ICU, and inpatient rehabilitation. He holds a Board Certification in Physical Rehabilitation from the American Occupational Therapy Association and is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT). He also has training and certifications in ergonomic assessments and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization. Dr. Plutschack’s research focuses on ergonomics, workplace health and wellness, upper extremity rehabilitation, and technology in the OT classroom. He is passionate about providing high-quality education to future occupational therapists and encourages students to foster creativity, leadership, advocacy, and critical thinking in their education.

Service and Community Involvement:

Dr. Plutschack is a member of several professional organizations including the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT), and the Iowa Occupational Therapy Association (IOTA). He is actively involved in service opportunities both locally and nationally. Dr. Plutschack serves as the Vice Chair of the Technology and Communications Committee for ASHT and received an ASHT Outstanding Service Award in 2021 for his role on the committee. He has held various leadership positions in IOTA and co-developed “NewBee OT”, a quarterly educational meeting for OT students and new practitioners in Iowa.
