The Marketing and Communications team tells the story of Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences by highlighting the institution’s achievements and those of its faculty, staff and students. We manage DMU’s external news outreach, develop strategies and produce marketing content for coverage of the university by print, broadcast and online media.
- All news releases from DMU are distributed through the marketing and communications office. In addition, the office is the main point of contact for media inquiries.
- The director of marketing and the editorial director manage media inquiries and cultivate relationships with local, national and regional press.
- The team produces and distributes news releases and provides training and support to faculty, staff and students on engagement with the media.

Procedures for Media on Campus
Our goal is to welcome members of the media to campus as long as this can be done without disrupting or hindering learning and campus activities.
- The news media are asked to contact the marketing and communications team to connect with the appropriate students, faculty or administrators for interviews.
- If the news media reach out to you directly, please contact the marketing and communications office to coordinate access together.
- If the media request is compatible with DMU guidelines, the marketing team will work to coordinate a productive visit. We will also assign a marketing and communications staff member to accompany the media on campus or at the DMU Clinic. This can be helpful to the media when engaging with the campus community

- If you seek external publicity for your news or an event, please contact the marketing team. We will work with you to determine an appropriate strategy.
- Depending on news value, we may share your idea with the media.
