Howard A. Graney award for undergraduate writing in the history of surgery

Each year the surgery department in the College of Osteopathic Medicine gives this award for the most outstanding paper written on a historical aspect of surgery that encompasses some of the most important and interesting aspects of medicine.

Sigma Sigma Phi Cancer Conference

The Sigma Sigma Phi Cancer Conference is held on campus each spring to explore the diagnosis, treatment, research and current issues related to cancer. It is organized and sponsored by members of Des Moines University’s honorary osteopathic service fraternity, Sigma Sigma Phi, dedicated to community service and education.

Student Osteopathic Surgical Association

Des Moines University Student Osteopathic Surgical Association (SOSA) is an organization of students interested in general surgery, surgery subspecialties and all other specialties concerned with surgical care of the patient. SOSA is affiliated with the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons (ACOS) and all members of SOSA are student members of ACOS. The advantages of DMU SOSA membership include monthly noon lectures by practicing surgeons/physicians, surgery workshops and opportunities to travel to the annual national meetings held by SOSA and ACOS.
